I'm not like most mothers in so many ways. Some mothers are trying to keep their kids from getting dirty, I'm showing my daughter how to "get dirty". I've had her in the garden with me side by side growing her vegetables since she was 18 months. I wanted my daughter to know that food does NOT come from a grocery store. I accomplished that when she was 18 months old!
As we have continued to grow a lot of our vegetables and now chicken eggs we have really started to take back some of our independence from some of mainstream conveniences that we really can do with out. Everyday, we look for opportunities to make changes to reduce, reuse, and grow/make ourselves. In doing so, we've begun to start finding extra monies that were not available to begin to move toward becoming debt free within a few years. We have a goal to be debt free and own our home free and clear within 5 years.
In order to reach this goal I have taken on that mission very seriously! I'm making our own laundry detergents and other household cleaners. I recycle/reuse almost everything. I compost everything that's able to be composted. I scour the internet/local stores finding the best deal on everything. I've become very fond of Michelle & Jim Bob Duggar's motto of buy used and save the rest. I used to complain when my parents bought used everything when we were growing up because everyone else had new. For my parents it was clearly a means of survival with 4 kids; however, now days it's not such a bad idea either. New never stays new forever!
Galations 6:7 NIV Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps
what he sows.
John 15:2 NIV He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
....to be continued
